Home Makeover in Gilbert

I've mentioned before that I'm a big fan of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

When I was in Phoenix, we drove by the house they made over in Gilbert, AZ.

Their story:

Kassandra Okvath, who lives with her family in Gilbert, Arizona, has battled cancer since doctors discovered a tumor in her kidney in 2003. While Kassandra was fighting for her life, her mother, Nichol, moved from their home to be nearer her daughter. Meanwhile Kassandra's father, Bryan, lost his truck-driving job for missing work during his daughter's illness. Other Okvath family members include Gabby, six, Levi, five, two-year-old twins Josiah & Tobiah and six-month-old Jonathan.

In the video she sent to the show's producers, Kassandra's simple, selfless request was that she wished that the children struggling with illness at the University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona -- where she has been receiving treatment -- might be given something very special. She asked if the walls of the hospital could be painted for sick kids because, as she said, "Sometimes that's the last things they see."

I usually only get to see the last 15 minutes of this show, but it is guaranteeeeed to clean my eyes out. My husband works for a home builder who helped with a build. They sent all employees a DVD with their version of the build. It was great to see a behind the scenes view. They even took up a collection for scholarships for the kids.

Hi, I am from Glasgow in Scotland and i just watched your edition of Extreme Makeover Home Edition and I have to tell you that I am so prode of what you guys have been from and I just think they way Kassandra handled her battle was really really brave and if i ever feel like my life is bad i will just think of Kassandra and say my life isn't as bad as what hers was like. Kassandras story touched my heart and I cried so much at the episode because all she was doing when she was ill was think of other people and i think that is ver remarkable. Love always Stephanie Russell X x x
