I Don't Want to Grow Up!!!

So today I'm filling out my transfer student application for University of South Carolina and I come to the section where I must select my major. And I can only select ONE! And I cannot choose undecided...that is only for freshmen. DAMN!

So I'm supposed to choose what I want to do with the rest of my life right this second? I can't do that!

So I go through each major, one by one. Some sound interesting, but don't fit me 100%. Some I would rather go to the dentist then pick that major. I don't want a major that's so specific since I don't know what I want to do.

And then, under the College of Hospitality, Retail, and Sport Management...I see Interdisciplinary Studies. Hmmm...let's look at this.

The concept of interdisciplinary studies is used in a variety of contexts. There is no single, widely accepted definition of the term. The meaning of the concept must be derived from the context in which it is used. In the case of the BAIS program in the College of HRSM, the concept of interdisciplinarity may be played out either in a single theme such as Environmental Studies or it may refer to the juxtaposition of two or more complementary disciplinary areas of concentration such as management, psychology and government.

I circled that thing quick!! And the cool thing about it, the majority of the students with this major are people already employed, trying to move up in their career, have lived in the real world, etc. Stuff that I feel like I can apply to my life and career like I did with University of Phoenix.

What do I want to do? Have no clue! Maybe going back to school will help. I have taken the Strengths Quest poll through Gallup that has helped me a lot lately realize what direction I need to go in to find the right job fit and to satisfy me. I have a couple of great mentors that help quide me in the right direction, and I always have my gut! (which helps me avoid bad decisions)

But at least I've figured out a major now! That's a step in the right direction! - I hope! :-)

I always wished that I was born back in the Middle Ages and there were weapon and armor smiths around. I would love to apprentice under a master smith and make armor and weapons for knights. Either that or become a knight, one of the two.

I thought you said you weren't allowed to pick "undecided?"

Sounds like a match. It's all about getting through college, not what your major is. At least in corporate, it doesn't matter.
